creative movement for children
SUITABLE FOR AGES 3-10 / YOUTH STUDIOS, CHURCHES, LIBRARIES, PUBLIC PARKS, and MORE
We find that children have a natural understanding of physical expression: after all, that is their primary mode of communication in those early years! Tony's Creative Movement class taps into the imaginative spirit and innate desire to wiggle for children ages 3-10. By integrating both open-ended movement prompts and what we like to call "soft technique", this class offers just enough structure and a whole lot of autonomous empowerment for young dancers. Tony has taught this class in dance studios, churches, libraries, museums, public parks - anywhere with enough safe open space to move!
contemporary and modern technique
SUITABLE FOR AGES 11-adult / YOUTH STUDIOS, COLLEGES, RECREATIONAL + PROFESSIONAL ADULT DANCE SPACES
We have both co-instructed and independently taught contemporary and modern dance technique for intermediate to advanced dancers ages 11 through adult. This has included recreational, competitive and pre-professional youth dance studios, college programs (including Adelphi University, Harvard University, Boston University, Roger Williams University and more), and in adult dance spaces for both recreational and professional level adult dancers. Our classes focus on developing and refining head/tail connection, creating sinewy movement patterns, dancing into and through the floor, and utilizing momentum to create sweeping, space-eating phrases.
composition and improvisation
SUITABLE FOR AGES 12-18 / YOUTH STUDIOS
Influenced by our own experiences studying composition with Seán Curran, Doug Varone, Peter DiMuro, Daniel McCusker and more, we have developed a composition class for youth dance students that challenges habit and classical form while celebrating each participant's unique creative voice. We employ a variety of improvisational and choreographic games and prompts that generally lead kids through a rollercoaster of movement discovery, with minimal discomfort and maximal laughs along the way. We feel best teaching this class for middle school and high school students at recreational, competitive and pre-professional youth studios.
dance date
SUITABLE FOR FAMILIES, COUPLES, FRIENDS, and MORE / YOUTH STUDIOS, CHURCHES, LIBRARIES, PUBLIC PARKS, and MORE
DANCE DATE is dance-for-all program that invites participants to explore communication, trust, and creativity through contemporary dance with a family member, friend, or romantic partner. While this creative movement workshop does require you to Bring-Your-Own-Partner, you do not need any prior experience in dance or movement. Pairs can range in age and relationship: grandchild/grandparent, parent/child, first date (!), best friends, or more. Theater-based eye contact/focus exercises, ”trust fall” exercises, and elements of dance theory are employed to build trust and connection, while inevitably fostering a few giggles. We can lead this program anywhere with enough space to move: studios, parks, you name it!
other offerings
In addition to the above, we have taught conditioning-for-dancers, yoga, contemporary partnering, movement for actors, movement for opera singers, and more. Interested in bringing us in, but don't see the class you are looking for on this list? Just reach out! Chances are we can imagine something together.
rates
Generally, our rate ranges from $75-125 per instructor, per hour depending on geographic area and student level. That said, we believe in making dance financially accessible to as many people as possible, so we are always open to some negotiation.
